Vancouver Sightseeing Tour Summer 2009
Not only can Alpine North Limousine provide transportation service between Whistler and Vancouver International Airport, but we are also able to do private charters and sightseeing tours.
A few weeks ago, I gave one of these sightseeing tours to a group of 6, including one tour guide, in our Cadillac Escalade ESV. It was the perfect vehicle because it is easy to drive around downtown Vancouver and in the traffic but still big enough to be able to see very well from inside the vehicle.
The itinerary was very condensed because of their schedule. This group's company is coming back for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and they wanted to make sure they visited all the local attractions before they brought their clients to these places. So in less than three days we were able to visit almost all the major attractions in Vancouver and Whistler, including restaurants, hotels, olympic venues, and sightseeing attractions. I definitely do not recommend this type of schedule, as it was a very busy schedule and we did what most groups would do in several weeks, in 3 days!
Just to mention a few of the places we visited in one day...
We visited Kitsilano Beach including the Watermark Restaurant that overlooks English Bay. We then drove along the Spanish Banks to UBC where we visited the Museum of Anthropology and the UBC Thunderbird Arena, where they will be holding hockey games as part of the Men's and Women's Tournament during the Olympics.

After this we went for a quick drive through Stanley Park and saw the totem poles, on our way to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and then to Grouse Mountain for a gondola ride and lunch at the top of the mountain.
Then, it was off to Whistler. Along the way we stopped at Porteau Cove for a few pictures. When we got to Whistler it was too late to go for a ride on the new Peak to Peak Gondola because it was already closed but we were able to visit the Official Olympic Merchandise Store and then the new Sliding Centre, where they will be holding the bobsled and luging events.
It was a short stay in Whistler before we were off to see Cypress Bowl where they will be holding the freestyle skiing and snowboard events. The lookout on the way up to Cypress Bowl is an amazing place to watch the sunset and see Vancouver from above. We missed the sunset because we were driving back from Whistler at the time, but the view from this lookout of Vancouver during the night is very beautiful.
For dinner our group went to Cardero's Restaurant. While they were having dinner, I managed to take a nap because after dinner I was sure they would want to go to a bar. So after Cardero's we went to see if Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant was still open but it looked like it was about to close. My clients then realized that they were getting sleepy and decided to call it a day and head back to their hotel.
I don't usually write about the trips I do with clients but that day was jam packed with sightseeing and somehow we were able to drive all over the Vancouver and up to Whistler in one day. It just gives you an idea of what is possible, as far as sightseeing, however, I would definitely recommend a slightly more relaxed agenda. If you were interested, feel free to call anytime and we would be more than happy to recommend an itinerary.
To list a few of the other places we visited:
- Granville Island
- BC Place (where the Opening Ceremonies will take place)
- GM Place (the primary venue for hockey during the Olympics)
- Yaletown
- Fairmont Vancouver Hotel
- Pan Pacific Hotel
- Plaza 500 Hotel
- took a ride on the new subway ("Canada Rail")
- took a floatplane to the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island
- Landmark Hotel
- Tourist Information
- Lift Restaurant (beautiful restaurant and bar on the water in Coal Harbour)
- Nu Restaurant (nice restaurant and bar in False Creek, right on the water, across from Granvilled Island)
- Bluewater Cafe (their favourite restaurant in Yaletown)
- Monk's McQueen Restaurant (restaurant on the water in False Creek)
The picture below is the roof of the new Convention Centre next to Canada Place in Downtown Vancouver.

This is the sunset at a new "Inukshuk" (Native statue, which I will explain more about in another posting) erected on English Bay Beach off Beach Avenue in the West End of Downtown Vancouver.

As you can see, if you require transportation to visit the local attractions in Vancouver and Whistler, we are very knowledgeable about all the best attractions, hotels, and restaurants. Feel free to call anytime to discuss. (Toll-free at 1-866-784-4020 or local at 604-849-0224)
