Spring Wildlife

Here are a few shots of some wildlife in the area. The bears are emerging from hibernation and this one was seen eating grass along the highway on our way to Vancouver from Whistler. The raccoons are locals of Stanley Park in Vancouver. And, the Canada Geese think that downtown Squamish is their new home.

Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre

We went to visit the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre a few weeks ago. It is a great place to learn about the First Nation's people of the area. Included in our entrance fee, was a guided tour that included traditional signing & drumming, a short film, interpretations & explanations of all the different artifacts on display, and even a craft session. On our tour we got to make cedar bark bracelets.

I would definitely recommend this place for families or anyone interested in learning about the local people of the Sea to Sky area.
Our tour began with some signing and drumming (directly below) and then an explanation of the dugout cedar canoe (below).

Further below are a few amazing pieces of art on display at the centre. The centre has a gift shop where you can purchase some carvings like this. It also has a small cafe, where you can try some traditional aboriginal foods, including smoked salmon and venison (deer meat).
The centre is between the Four Seasons Resort Whistler and the Day Parking Lots at 4584 Blackcomb Way
